The Director of Artist Programs, Learning & Engagement will lead BAC’s efforts in nurturing Brooklyn’s rich creative community through innovative public programming, educational initiatives, and engagement strategies. The Six Foot Platform
Deadline: June 3, 2024
Presented by the Dumbo Improvement District in partnership with Brooklyn Arts Council, the Six Foot Platform is an experimental art and performance program inviting Brooklyn-based artists to activate a 6’x6’ platform at the intersection of Washington and Water Streets. Six chosen artists will be afforded a single-day residency on the platform to show off their creations as well as a $1,250 honorarium. Submitted work must invite continuous engagement and interaction, be appropriate for all ages, and be suitable for public space. We’re open to all mediums and are particularly interested in works in progress.

Third Law is an interactive theatrical experience, working to maximize audience agency and bring them into the heart of art making using technology. Through a digital game board, the audience has the unique opportunity to shape the world of the play and the characters in it, collaborating with the artists and each other to co-create a performance that can only happen live and in person. Combining high-concept art installation design with performance and gameplay, Third Law brings us together in space in a visceral and dynamic way - and it’s never the same twice.

Join the culminating event of BAC Teaching Artist Doba Afolabi at Eileen C. Dugan Older Adult Center. Afolabi’s residency led participants through the process of making mural on a canvas on 50”x84” in which the class would stretch canvas, treat the surface , illustrate stories using the neighborhood as the muse, and prepare and apply colors and finishing.

“Paper and Fiber Crafts” Community Exhibition

“Here We Are/We Are Here”

“Here We Are/We Are Here” is the culminating event of James Clements’ Brooklyn Arts Council SU-CASA residency with the seniors at the Independence Neighbourhood Center in Williamsburg. Clements, an immigrant artist and documentary theatre maker, has worked with the primarily immigrant seniors participants at the centre over the past several weeks on a verbatim audio play, accompanied by a photography series by Puerto Rican photographer Pablo Calderón-Santiago. The play, built from interviews conducted by Clements with the seniors about their lives, their memories and their hopes for their future as well as the future of Brooklyn, will be debuted at the event, alongside an exhibition of photographs of the participants, followed by a reception. This multilingual documentary theatre project is a testament to the vitality, dignity and diversity of the seniors in our borough, honouring their words, perspectives and experiences. It is Clements' third consecutive project with the SU-CASA program.
“The Mending Quilt”

Let us mend together.
Performance artist, mike durkin, will unveil The Mending Quilt. This is a culmination of the time mike spent at the Pete McGuiness OAC in Greenpoint. mike conducted story-sharing circles focusing on mending bodies and communities. He used this as inspiration to work with the older adults to create a collaborative quilt together. The sharing session will consist of the unveiling of the quilt, stories from participants, a sample mending session, and refreshments.

Brooklyn's Atlantic Avenue ArtWalk is a celebration of local artists and merchants who both add life, soul and beauty to our communities. The ArtWalk is a 1.5-mile, self-guided tour along Atlantic Avenue from Fourth Avenue to the Waterfront, and its immediate side streets, featuring art from different mediums while showcasing approximately 150 emerging and established Brooklyn artists at 70+ participating businesses. Come see the first staged reading of a new musical "In Between 48th Street," a period piece, based in NYC on 48th Street in the late 1980's written by Andy Cagnetta & Steve Sloane. The musical tells the tale of two rival music stores located next door to each other on 48th Street. The characters interplay with one another, most notably in the break room "in between" the two stores. But the title of the show, In Between, is really more of a metaphor for life; you are born, you eventually die but what you do with your life "in-between" is what really matters.

Creatives Thrive NYC (CTNYC) helps NYC artists and creatives build the financial skills to meet big challenges. CTNYC is a series of free, informative online workshops aimed at providing NYC’s creative workers with real-world financial tools tailored to their specific needs.

UrbanGlass: “The Bead Project” 2024 Trunk Show

The Bead Project invites you to a viewing of graduates' amazing lampwork jewelry projects. The Trunk Show will take place downstairs in the Agnes Varis Art Center at UrbanGlass. Friends, family, and the public at large are invited to shop for jewelry, beads, and art pieces.
The Bead Project is a scholarship program designed for creatively inclined, economically disadvantaged women. Over the course of ten classes at the UrbanGlass studios, students learn the art of glass beadmaking, simple jewelry fabrication techniques, and the entrepreneurial skills to develop a business plan. The Bead Project offers students a transformative experience, new tools for self-expression, and the skills to turn glass bead making into a viable form of income, while becoming a part of a dynamic creative community.

“Grace: a reception and fundraiser for Youth Justice Network” will honor the journey, leadership, and grace of City Councilman Yusef Salaam. As a member of the Exonerated Five, he has dedicated his life to activism and education about the impact of mass incarceration and police brutality. For almost 35 years, Youth Justice Network has impacted generations of young people and the systems they intersect with by reducing harm and trauma and replacing it with pathways to healthy social networks, education, work, joy and economic independence. All proceeds from this benefit will help young people stay out of harm’s way, out of jail, and on a path to lasting personal growth and economic stability.
BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Benefit Concert: “Michael Brun Presents BAYO”

Emergency Funds for Undocumented Persons by Mixteca
Deadline: May 10
Mixteca has created an Emergency Fund to help immigrant families alleviate some of the economic stress exhibited during this pandemic with a little financial support. Filling out this form does not guarantee the award of money. Priority will be given to members of the undocumented community who are unable to work, have lost part or all of their jobs due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), and who cannot access federal funds.
More Art Engaging Artists Fellowship

More Art’s year-long (August 2024 to July 2025) Engaging Artists Fellowship is designed to help emerging NYC artists and community organizers develop and sustain a socially engaged and public art practice. The Fellowship program curriculum includes mentorship, peer feedback, community building, workshops and artist talks tailored to the interests/needs of the cohort, and access to programming opportunities in New York City.
The CultureHub Residency Open Call

The CultureHub Residency program will offer one-week residencies to artists September 9–December 13, 2024. Artists will receive one week of studio access with full technical support at CultureHub New York or Los Angeles to target specific areas of their project’s development and engage the CultureHub community around their work. These residencies are designed to support artists as they get new work on its feet and in front of an audience.
THE BANDUNG 2024-25 RESIDENCY

The Bandung 2024-25 Residency, presented by the Asian American Arts Alliance (A4) and The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA), is an opportunity designed to uplift the work of organizers, artists, educators, and waymakers whose practice is intended to foster solidarity between Asian American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Black communities. The Bandung Residency aims to cultivate a dynamic safe space for a diverse cohort of changemakers interested in engaging in social justice discourse, restorative healing, cultural placemaking, expanding the narrative between communities, and cross-community allyship, whether participating in the program for their personal transformation, in service to the communities identified, or both.
the Hopper Prize

The Hopper Prize was established to provide grants, visibility, and career enhancing validation to artists who demonstrate a serious commitment to their work. The Hopper Prize provides unrestricted cash grants in the amount of $3,500 and $1,000 to artists around the globe. The Hopper Prize views the field of visual art in its broadest and most inclusive sense and therefore make awards available to artists working in any media.
NewFest: The New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival
Deadline: May 15
NewFest gives voice and visibility to the full spectrum of LGBTQ+ experiences by championing films, supporting storytellers, and engaging audiences in order to inspire dialogue, shift cultural bias and empower our community. NewFest seeks narrative, documentary, experimental, and animated films (both features and shorts) inclusive of–and of interest to–the LGBTQ+ community. Festival submission fees for Black filmmakers with LGBTQ+ stories centering Black characters and perspectives will be waived.
The Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant
Deadline: May 15 | $15,000 - $50,000
The Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant supports emerging and established writers who write about contemporary visual art. Ranging from $15,000 to $50,000 in three categories—articles, books, and short-form writing—the grants support projects addressing both general and specialized art audiences, from short reviews for magazines and newspapers to in-depth scholarly studies. The program also supports art writing that engages criticism through interdisciplinary methods and experiments with literary styles.
New York Public Library Dance Research Fellowship
Deadline: May 15 | $10,000
The Jerome Robbins Dance Division at the Library for the Performing Arts, which houses the Mikhail Baryshnikov archive, invites applications from dance scholars and practitioners interested in exploring the legacy of Baryshnikov. Fellows receive a $10,000 stipend, dedicated support to work with a dance librarian as they work in the archive, and an opportunity to present their projects at our annual Dance Symposium in January 2025.
Circ Artist Grants
Deadline: May 15 | $1,000
The Circ Artist Grants are open to emerging, mid-career, and professional artists in an international open call, several times throughout the year. The Circ Artist Grant provides unrestricted funding to artists with a demonstrated commitment to their art. For the Spring 2024 cycle, three artists will be awarded $1,000 each to enhance and further their creative practice.
Rauschenberg Dancer Emergency Grants
Deadline: May 17 by 5pm ET | Up to $3,000
This national program provides one-time grants of up to $3,000 to professional dancers in need, who are in a dire financial emergency due to the loss or lack of recent/current live performance work, because of circumstances outside of their control. You must demonstrate an urgent and critical need for emergency support in your application, and live in the United States, the District of Columbia, a Tribal Nation, or a U.S. Territory.
Rauschenberg Medical Emergency Grants
Deadline: May 17 by 5pm ET | Up to $5,000
This national program provides one-time grants of up to $5,000 for recent unexpected medical, dental, and mental health emergencies to artists in financial need who are creating in the visual arts, film/video/electronic/digital arts, and choreography and live in the United States, the District of Columbia, a Tribal Nation, or a U.S. Territory. In Cycle 24, funds may be requested for emergencies occurring October 1, 2023 and later. Grants may be requested for expenses already paid, pending, or for treatment the artist is putting off due to lack of funds.
From Roots to Arts: Celebrating NYCHA’s Cultural Heritage
Deadline: May 19
The Public Housing Community Fund, in collaboration with the NYC Housing Authority (NYCHA), NYC Public Design Commission, and the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development and its funded cornerstone programs, and NYCHA residents, is seeking talented artists for the From Roots to Arts: Celebrating NYCHA’s Cultural Heritage artist-in-residency pilot. The program designed to enrich and expand culture, heritage, and art narratives within public housing by placing local artists and residents at the forefront of this endeavor. The program aims to redefine how stories are told and the type of art produced and featured in public housing.
JGS Fellowship for Photography
Deadline: May 21 | $8,000
The JGS Fellowship for Photography is a $8,000 cash grant open to New York State photography artists living and working outside of New York City. The Fellowship is awarded to five artists working in traditional and experimental photography or any form in which photographic techniques are pivotal. The support for this funding is provided by The Joy of Giving Something (JGS).
Art in Odd Places 2024 – CARE

Art in Odd Places CARE invites artists, performers, agitators, and caretakers to enact notions of care along 14th Street NYC. The CARE curatorial team (Patricia Miranda and Christopher Kaczmarek) seek individuals, collectives, collaborators, and those interested in joining forces with like-minded folks to design new team projects for the festival. CARE invites artists to offer stations of care across the festival, where all are invited to stop, to rest, to CARE.
"Body Politic" Live Storytelling: Call for Submissions
Deadline: May 31
Bellevue Literary Review is producing a live storytelling event in New York City this fall on the theme of “Body Politic.” We are seeking true, personal stories about the fraught intersection of the body, healthcare, and society. We encourage people of all backgrounds and ages to submit a two-minute recorded pitch below. You might not think of yourself as a storyteller right now, but you do not need any prior writing or performance experience to participate.
B.J. Bespoke Gallery pAPERWORKS 2024
Deadline: June 5
Paperworks 2024 is an online competition with a two-month long exhibition on their website for finalists, small cash prizes for winners and an online reception. Juror Julian Sanchez Gonzales is a Research Fellow at the Museum of Modern Art. B.J. Bespoke Gallery will promote the virtual show and display the finalists work on the gallery website and social media platforms. The virtual show dates will be July 1 through August 31, 2024. Cash prize for First Place is $300, $200 for Second Place and $100 for Third Place. A Zoom Reception and Awards Presentation will be held on Thursday, July 11, for artists, their guests and the public, at which time the award winners will be announced.
2025 Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise in Visual Arts and Curatorial Work

The Vilcek Foundation will award three Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise of $50,000 each to young, immigrant visual artists and three Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise of $50,000 each to young, immigrant curators who demonstrate outstanding early achievement in their field. Applicants must have been born outside the United States of America to non-American parents.
KUNSTRAUM 2024-2025 Artist-in-Residence

KUNSTRAUM is a community of artists by artists with the goal of redefining the collaboration between artists and curators. Through this program, KUNSTRAUM aims to explore the relationships between artists and curators by opening our gallery spaces to those interested in exploring unconventional, engaging ideas and taking risks. KUNSTRAUM’s Artist-in-Residency program offers three-month residencies for national and international artists on a quarterly cycle.
The Ryan Hudak LGBTQ+ Dramatic Writing Award

The Ryan Hudak LGBTQ+ Dramatic Writing Award is an annual $8,000 cash grant awarded to one (1) New York State-based playwright or screenwriter who self-identifies as LGBTQ+. The Award honors the life and work of Ryan Hudak. Ryan was a gay playwright, theater maker, filmmaker, and a valued member of NYFA’s staff who served on the executive and development teams. Its four-day programming Oct 2024, promotes cultural diversity through various art genres, including dramatic, documentary, experimental, short films, podcasts, and panel discussions.

The Illuminations Grant for Black Trans Women Visual Artists is an annual $10,000 grant awarded to provide critical support to Black trans women whose work has often been under-recognized in the visual art field. The grant sheds light on the under-recognized contributions of Black trans women visual artists and provides critical support to their continuing work.

ArtsBergen Public Art Roster Call for Artists

Northern NJ Community Foundation ArtsBergen is one of the largest producers of public art in Bergen County, NJ, and is seeking to grow its roster of artists who create public art that is relevant to community and accessible to the public. This is an opportunity for artists to be included in a pool for potential paid work opportunities. ArtsBergen is looking to learn more about artists in the area available and interested in creating public art. We will compile this list of talent into a roster of artists we can call upon to help us develop and implement projects. The roster will also become the main tool for choosing artists for public art projects, as well as a resource to match municipal interest and artist disciplines, styles, and foci.
Adobe Creative Residency Community Fund

The Adobe Creative Residency Community Fund provides support to creators during times of extraordinary hardship. The Community Fund aims to respond to global events that directly impact the wellbeing of creators, focusing its support on an ongoing issue in order to drive positive impact over a period of time. The Fund may shift its focus to a new issue after this sustained period of support. Current Fund efforts are focused on supporting creators who have been directly impacted by the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
Serve as a NYSCA Panelist

Each year, more than 150 artists, nonprofit leaders, and arts and culture administrators from all over New York State serve as NYSCA panelists, making our grantmaking possible. With their individual experiences and perspectives, they are responsible for reviewing each grant application and are essential to the evaluation process. Are you ready to serve? If selected, you can serve for up to three years, meeting virtually in late summer/early fall to review applications. Your service is essential for a fair and unbiased evaluation process to support the arts.

Dominicans Love Haitians Movement is presenting its second annual Nou Akoma Nou Sinèrji Haitian Dominican Transnational Symposium with the theme, “The Right to Have Rights.” The symposium invites artists, performers, panels, and podcasts to submit artwork and proposals related to the underpinnings of rights and their divestment: belonging, disallowance, invisibility, dignity, exclusion, uprootedness, vulnerability. Dominicans Love Haitians Movement invites artists, performers, panels, and podcasts to submit proposals related to event topics.
