Join celebrated Mexican dancers Jasmine Espinal and Angie Sosa for Danza de Tecuanes. This tradition is a Mixteco dance that represents the Chichimeca and Zapotec tribes coming together to hunt the Tecuani, the Jaguar that threatens their way of life. A big part of social life in the New York Mexican diaspora, the Tecuanes dances such as Marcha, Bandera and Corte de Caña creates a space to bring the community together to explore cultural roots and collectively heal.
Jasmine Espinal (Pinturas) is a visual artist, arts educator, and Mixtec dancer from Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Through her artistic and cultural work, Jasmine finds herself making connections with her community and ancestral roots. Currently, she works with preschoolers using recycled and repurposed materials.
Angie Sosa is a student and Mixtec dancer from Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Her dedication to traditional dancing helps her to reconnect with her ancestral roots.
