A Woman Upfront celebrates Brooklyn Arts Council's spring 2012 Half the Sky Festival: Brooklyn Women in Traditional Performance. This unprecedented series of concerts, performances, workshops and symposia will highlight Brooklyn women performing artists, especially those working in traditional art forms. Although as the Chinese proverb declares "women hold up half the sky," women artists often go unseen and unheard. Half the Sky Festival gives women performers their rightful place in the spotlight, and brings audiences a world of women's cultural traditions-from Sudanese lullabies to Guyanese wedding songs found right here in Brooklyn.

All proceeds from A Woman Upfront will benefit Brooklyn Arts Council's work throughout 2012. Last year alone, BAC channeled over $1 million directly into the hands of Brooklyn artists and arts organizations through grants, employment in our Arts in Education program, artist/performer fees, commissions, etc. Your support will help us exceed this in 2012, and help us sustain arts programs around the borough that enrich the lives of Brooklynites of all ages and all walks of life. Click here to listen to Isle of Klezbos performing at 92Y Tribeca in NYC.
