Coaching Session: Arts Writing with Daniela Fifi

Critical writing is a vital component of the creative art ecosystem and is evolving rapidly. This coaching session with Daniela Fifi, Ed.D will introduce you to professional, creative, and critical art writing and publishing. In relation to art and creative industries, you will explore a variety of writing and publishing styles. Consideration will be given to writing and publishing in an increasingly interdisciplinary art-based context, including engagement with catalog essays, artists’ statements, journal papers, and online articles. In addition, participants will work independently and collaboratively to develop advanced reading, writing, and editing skills.
Daniela Fifi, Ed.D has worked as an arts educator, and a curatorial specialist in galleries and museums in the United States and the Caribbean. She is a doctoral graduate in Art and Art Education at Teachers College, Columbia University and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute, New York and a Master of Arts in Art Gallery and Museum Studies from the University of Manchester, UK. Her doctoral research focuses on Caribbean art and intercultural programming in museums. Daniela has been awarded several fellowships and awards during her career including the New York State Assembly - Caribbean Life Impact Award, The Museum Education Research Fellowship at the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Samuel H. Kress Interpretive Fellowship. She was formally the Chief Curator at The National Art Gallery of the Bahamas and the Managing Editor Small Axe Visualities (Duke University Press). She has taught art education, world art history, and human development in the arts at The City College of New York and New Jersey City University. She also serves on the peer-review board for Viewfinder and Art Education, the official journal of the National Art Education Association (USA). In her spare time Daniela enjoys listening to music and being in nature.
