Become a Grant Panelist
Want to become involved with Brooklyn Arts Council's grantmaking efforts? We welcome you to become a panelist for our upcoming cycle of grant applications.
Panelist Criteria
BAC uses a panel selection process to review proposals and determine awards. Since we give grants to all kinds of artists from all over Brooklyn, we need Panelist nominations from all of our borough's communities!
Panel nominees should be reliable individuals with a commitment to the arts, knowledge of Brooklyn communities, and expertise in an artistic discipline, arts administration, or community arts programming. This is a great learning opportunity for artists who have been or would like to be Grantees.
BAC strives to appoint panels that are diverse in terms of ethnicity, gender, age, culture, geographic representation, and artistic focus. Because of the need to form well-balanced panels, we may not be able to consider all the qualified people who are nominated.
PROCESS
Panelists receive an online panel packet that includes applications to review, a panel handbook, and other required paperwork.
Panelists review and pre-evaluate each application prior to their deliberation meeting, where they are guided through short discussions about each application prior to settling on a complete list of funding recommendations based on revised scores.
Panel meetings occur late November ‘24 - February ‘25.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Panelists are required to:
Review a Panelist Training Video & Handbook; submitting paperwork for payment
Score of 15-45 applications (scores due one week before Panel Day)
Participate in group review during day-long panel meeting with 2-6 other panelists (most likely on Zoom)
Be available during late November ‘24 - February '25
