BAC performing artists draw on the multiculturalism of Brooklyn and the array of repertoires citywide. We seek artists who can engage their audience, provide educational context and demonstrate a successful track record of performing in NYC public schools.

Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC) hires Music and Dance Teaching Artists (TA's) with performing groups for every school year!
BAC’s Arts in Education performances captivate and inspire audiences of all ages, interests, and abilities with opportunities to experience cultures and traditions through music and dance from across the globe. Help foster creativity and stimulate imagination by bringing live music or dance to schools.

We are seeking Performing Groups that:
Are legally eligible to work in the United States and can provide current and complete documentation for work.
Can teach in English AND another language, particularly Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Ukrainian.
Have experience with Social Emotional Learning, Culturally Responsive Education, Trauma Informed Teaching, and Abolitionist Focused Education, STEAM education practices.
Have experience teaching English Language Learners and neurodiverse, disabled, and D75 cohorts.
Have availability Monday’s - Friday’s, November – June, for in school programming (8am-3pm) and/or after school programming (2pm-5pm).
Represent the populations of students that we are serving. We serve students of the following identities and seek to add TA’s to our roster that identify similarly: Black, Hispanic, and Asian students, LGBTQ+ students, immigrant students, disabled and neurodiverse students .
Can teach Music and/or Dance.

BAC TA’s can expect an average of 1-3 residencies (on average, 7-8 hours per residency) per school year depending on programming needs. In addition to teaching hours, each residency includes paid planning and professional development hours.

Commitment and ability to incorporate the NYS Learning Standards in the Arts and the NYC Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts
Quality of program design and content
Ability to reach all students based on an understanding of diverse developmental levels
Professional Experience & Collaborative Planning Skills:
Understanding of each site's needs (schools, after-school, and community-based organizations, etc.)
Ability to plan with others and articulate goals and objectives
Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with site contacts
Adaptability to varying student populations, school environments, and resource availability

Paid teaching, planning, and professional development hours are currently billed at $85/hour. BAC TA’s have access to Materials for the Arts and NYC Arts in Education Roundtable events.

You can expect to provide a portfolio or resume, 1-3 samples of your artistic work, a sample lesson plan. After your application is submitted, applicants moving forward will receive an interview request via email for a 1-hour Zoom interview/audition.
