Whether the economic crisis of the 1970s or Hurricane Sandy, Brooklyn has survived some tough times. Our artists have, too. Here are emergency funding resources for artists in need.
Actors Fund
Actors Fund offers financial assistance for essentials such as rent, utilities, food, home health care, and medical supplies.
AIC-CERT
AIC-CERT responds to the needs of cultural institutions during emergencies and disasters through coordinated efforts with first responders, state agencies, vendors, and the public.
Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation
Emergency grants for fine art artists (painters, graphic artists, printmakers, sculptors) in times of emergency, bereavement, and disability.
Amgen
The Amgen Foundation supported nonprofit organizations providing medical relief and vital health services for patients affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Artists’ Fellowship
The Artists' Fellowship, Inc. is a charitable foundation that assists professional fine artists (painters, graphic artists, printmakers, sculptors) and their families in times of emergency, disability, or bereavement.

Arts Ready provides solutions for organizations to prepare continuity plans for post-crisis sustainability.
Bend the Arc
Bend the Arc has a history of focusing grants and loans in low-income communities that are disproportionately affected when disaster strikes.
Brooklyn Community Foundation
The fund supports Brooklyn communities and organizations impacted by Hurricane Sandy and provides direct support for needs identified by local Brooklyn nonprofit service providers, the small business community, and borough civic institutions.
Brooklyn Sandy Relief Legal Clinic
The Brooklyn Sandy Relief Legal Clinic will be staffed by disaster-relief-trained law students and volunteer attorneys who will offer storm-related legal and application assistance with regard to insurance claims; FEMA applications and appeals; public assistance; and housing.
CERF Craft Emergency Relief Fund
CERF provides emergency funds for emerging and professional craft artists who are U.S. residents.
Disaster Unemployment Insurance
If you live or work in Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk, or Westchester counties and you lost your income due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy, you may qualify for DUA.
FEMA
FEMA funds a number of assistance programs including rental payments for temporary housing for those whose homes are unlivable; grants for home repairs and replacement of essential household items; and unemployment payments up to 26 weeks for workers who temporarily lost jobs because of disaster.

FCA provides emergency funds to emerging artists working in the U.S.

Joan Mitchell Foundation
Emergency funds for artists working in the mediums of painting, sculpture, and drawing who were affected by natural or man-made disasters that affected a community.
Lawyers Alliance of New York
Lawyers Alliance helps nonprofits provide critical social services and emergency funds to people affected by terrorism, natural disasters, and other tragedies.
Lester Petrillo Memorial Fund for Disabled Musicians
Grants are given out to temporarily or permanently disabled musicians who are members of the American Federation of Musicians.
Mister ArtSee
Mister ArtSee, the nation's mobile art laboratory, and the ART© group have set up an emergency relief fund for artists and art professionals who have suffered losses due to Hurricane Sandy. 100% of all funds will go directly to companies and artists affected by the storm.
MusiCares Foundation
MusiCares offers emergency financial aid to eligible music-industry professionals including performers, producers, engineers, and songwriters. To be eligible you must have at least 5 years of employment in the music industry.

NYC Office of Emergency Management
The New York City Office of Emergency Management coordinates emergency response and recovery, and collects and disseminates emergency information.

The New York State DHSES provides leadership and support for efforts to respond to, and recover from, natural disasters and other emergencies.
North Star Fund
The North Star Fund's Grassroots Hurricane Relief Fund helps the most vulnerable residents and communities in our region recover.
Small Business Administration
In the event of a national disaster, after residents and businesses are registered with FEMA, they may apply for a disaster loan.
Society of Singers
SOS provides emergency charitable grants for food, shelter, utilities, medical assistance, HIV/AIDs treatment, substance abuse treatment, psychotherapy, and other basic necessities.
