Foster Care Film and Community Engagement Project (FCFCEP) & City Living NY present: Absence/Presence

The Foster Care Film and Community Engagement Project (FCFCEP) and City Living NY invite you to a free screening to celebrate the PBS premiere of Absence/Presence, a documentary short film that highlights the stories of youth growing up in the foster care system. Tackling issues such as substance abuse, parental incarceration, grief, and loss, Absence/Presence provides an inside look into the impact of the foster care system through the eyes of those who have experienced it first-hand.

The Neurodivergent New Play Series continues October 15th at the Vino Theater with a reading of "Skinny Legend" - written by Liv Shoup and directed by Jaye Hunt. Presented the 3rd Sunday of each month at 2pm, the Neurodivergent New Play Series is dedicated to promoting the work of rising neurodivergent writers who identify as having autism, ADHD, OCD, dyslexia, Tourette syndrome, etc. 50% of proceeds go to the Autistic Self-Advocacy Fund for this performance.
Live Q&A Solidarity Economy: Cooperatives for Creatives
with Daniel Park of Obvious Agency

To get creative projects done, many artists and creative workers instinctively pool resources and labor. They share risk, profits, recognition, and opportunities. During this Q&A, Daniel Park will discuss the founding and operation of Obvious Agency and answer questions from those involved in cooperative work or considering the formalization of their cooperative work.

"box/truck" is a performance within and surrounding a 16-foot box truck that contemplates heritage, assimilation, and “home.” Using the stories of her maternal grandparents’ assimilation as the children of Jewish immigrants, writer and director Adrienne Westwood, together with a small, multi-talented ensemble creates a portal of exploration into the (un)told stories of inheritance.
The 27th Annual Gowanus Open Studios

Immersive Playtest Night 10

A monthly meetup at The Lower Case the second Wednesday of every month! This is an "unconference", where anyone can bring a new immersive idea they want to try out. At the beginning, anyone who has playtest in mind will briefly present it, including the number of people they need, and an estimated duration. Then, you’ll split up into our separate groups. Anyone who is an immersive creator or willing to provide feedback is welcome to come. Not everyone needs to bring a prepared playtest.
Using Sustainable Supplies to Teach the Arts

Join the NYC Arts in Education Roundtable and Materials for the Arts (MFTA) for an in-person workshop on incorporating sustainability into your arts education practice. MFTA seeks to inspire imagination through creative reuse and is a valuable resource for the city’s arts education community. Join MFTA on site in Queens for a tour of their gallery and warehouse, followed by a hands-on workshop sharing best practices for making art with readily available materials from their ever-changing warehouse inventory.
The dots between
Application Deadline: October 15
The Dots Between is a financial coaching program for artists who are motivated to address their financial practices, nurture their relationship with money, and establish the structures that will support their long term fiscal health. The program is administered virtually for six-months and offered at no cost for artists of any medium, career stage and location.

Through speaker presentations and group discussions examining specific case studies (which may include exhibitions that have come under pressure in relation to specific geopolitical histories and conflicts, the presentation of Indigenous objects, references to racial violence, etc.), The Arts & Culture Advocacy Program’s 5th Curatorial Workshop will propose strategies to address the specific challenges curators and institutions face when attempting to balance an ethics of care with artistic freedom in their programs.

Artist Opportunities
Circ Artist Grant
$1,000 | Deadline: October 15
The Circ Artist Grants are open to emerging, mid-career, and professional artists in an international open call, several times throughout the year. The Circ Artist Grant provides unrestricted funding to artists with a demonstrated commitment to their art. For the Fall 2023 cycle, three artists will be awarded $1,000 each to enhance and further their creative practice.
Kirkland Art Center Call for artists
Deadline: October 15
The Kirkland Art Center, located in Clinton, NY, has opened its annual call for artists for the 2024 – 2025 season. Artists may submit proposals for solo exhibits, group exhibits, or curated exhibitions of original work in most traditional art media. Video or artwork in digital form unfortunately cannot be accepted at this time. The Kirkland Art Center, one of the oldest art centers in New York State, is located in Clinton, NY, serving the Mohawk Valley region and beyond. The KAC is dedicated to presenting richly diverse voices and experiences in all its programming and exhibitions.
KUNSTRAUM Open Call for Artist-in-Residence 2024-2025
Deadline: October 15
KUNSTRAUM is a community of artists by artists with the goal of redefining the collaboration between artists and curators. Through our program, we aim to explore the relationships between artists and curators by opening our gallery spaces to those interested in exploring unconventional, engaging ideas and taking risks. The Artist-in-Residency program offers three-month residencies for national and international artists on a quarterly cycle.
Next Jazz Legacy
$10,000 | Deadline: October 16
Next Jazz Legacy is a new national apprenticeship program for women and non-binary improvisers in jazz, with the intersection of gender and race as a guiding principle. Focused on increasing opportunities for musicians most underrepresented in the art form, the program combines learning opportunities with a support package designed to deliver career impact.
Rbhu Engineering: Rbhu Gives Back Grants
$12,000 | Deadline: October 16
Rbhu believes that art plays a key role in lifting the human spirit; it ignites the imagination with possibilities, helps process and express feelings, and brings people together for a collective cause. Rbhu believes that monumental sculptures have the power to inspire creativity and can positively impact the health and well-being of those around them. Engineering large-scale art sculptures is Rbhu’s mission, and the 2023 Rbhu Gives Back grants offer $12,000 worth of free engineering services to artists in need.
NYSCA-A.R.T./New York Creative Opportunity Fund
$2,000-$5,000 | October 17
The Creative Opportunity Fund grant aims to distribute flexible funding to support theatres throughout New York state with capacity building and stabilization and to increase funding opportunities for theatres who have been left out of mainstream funding opportunities because of barriers associated with racial, economic, disability, and sexual identity and/or geographic location.
MAP Fellowship
Deadline: October 20
The Morgridge Acceleration Program (MAP) Fellowship is a six-month program for early-to-mid-career changemakers who are passionate about social impact and looking to enhance their professional skills, widen their network, and collaborate with influential nonprofit executives, known as MAP Mentors. Each mentor presents a real-world challenge currently facing their nonprofit that a matched MAP Fellow commits to solving.
Queens Museum: QM-Jerome Foundation Fellowship for Emerging Artists
$20,000 | Deadline: October 29
This fellowship will grant two visual artists $20,000 each, individual studio space, professional development consultations, and close mentorship from Museum staff members working toward the artists’ projects. Fellows will have individual studio space from January 2024 through January 2025, as well as a solo-exhibition in 2025.
Bronx Council on the Arts Community Engagement Grants
Deadline: October 31
The Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA) offers funding to support community-centered arts and culture projects and to recognize outstanding local artists. Three funds are available to Bronx-based artists and art organizations:
New Work (NW) - supports individual Bronx-based artists.
Arts Fund (AF) - supports Bronx-based individual artists, artist collectives and 501c3 arts organizations with an organizational budget below $100,000.
Community Arts (CA) - local non-profit organizations may apply directly; individual artists or collectives must apply either through a Bronx-based fiscal sponsor or in partnership with a community-based non-profit organization based in the Bronx.
NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music and Theatre
$20,000 - $50,000 | Deadline: November 1
The NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music and Theatre, administered by the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) in partnership with the City of New York Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME), provides grants to encourage and support the creation of digital, film, music, and live or online theatre content that reflects the voices and perspectives of all who identify as women.
A.I.R. FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Deadline: November 1
The A.I.R. Fellowship Program was established in 1993 by former artist member Stephanie Bernheim in order to support underrepresented and emerging women and non-binary artists in New York City. Each year, six artists are awarded a year-long fellowship to develop and exhibit a project at A.I.R. Gallery.
Velvetpark: LGBTQ+ Writers Residency 2024

Velvetpark welcomes LGBTQ+ writers to develop and share their stories through our 4th Writer’s Residency. A 6 month live-work studio in Brooklyn, New York will be awarded to the resident. For almost two decades Velvetpark has recognized queer people in the arts, academia and activism, by featuring stories on, by, or about these individuals in the pages of the print magazine and online. It is in the same spirit that our residency program has been launched and expanded to include imaginative and enterprising LGBT+ creators, who need space to support and cultivate their work.
Beam Center Open Call
Deadline: November 6
Each year, Beam Center seeks design proposals for ambitious public artworks that will be brought to life through collaborations between youth and creative big thinkers. Projects are realized by a community of more than 100 young people at each of our project sites: in New Hampshire, on Governors Island, and in a local NYC community.
Data Through Design 2024 Exhibition
Deadline: November 15
Projects in the annual DxD exhibition creatively analyze, interpret and interrogate data made available in NYC’s Open Data Portal. With art's capacity to capture the human experience, DxD surfaces hidden stories, disrupts widely accepted patterns, and questions claims to objectivity of data-driven narratives. DxD exhibits works in a wide range of media and formats such as digital, analog, physical, performance, sound works, walks, installations, creative coding, participatory mapping, drawings, etc.
Postcards from the Edge
Deadline: November 17
Postcards From the Edge is an annual exhibition and benefit sale to support artists living with HIV and those lost to AIDS. Submit an original 4"x6" artwork (of any medium and subject matter; artists from anywhere are welcome) to benefit 35 years of Visual AIDS for this beloved in-person exhibition in NYC and online sale.
NYSCA FY24 Capital Projects Fund
Deadline: January 11
Up to $37 million in capital funding is available to nonprofit arts and culture organizations through the New York State Council on the Arts' Capital Projects Fund. The Fund has two grant categories: Small and Midsized Capital Improvement Grants and Large Capital Improvement Grants.
