A Message from Our Programs Team
We thank everyone who joined us for our Thrive Talks webinars! A special shoutout to our featured artists and partners for their participation including: NYC Business Solutions Center For Brooklyn; TD Bank; Brooklyn Coop Federal Credit Union; Grow Brooklyn; and POWRPLNT.
Over the past month, we have been working on website updates that enhance navigation and the online experience for those living with disabilities. Powered by EqualWeb, visitors will now see an accessibility widget on the bottom left side of their browser when on our site. The digital accessibility feature can be used for navigation, color, and content adjustments.
BAC would also like to extend a round of applause to SToopS, lead by Kendra Ross, for their participation in the Laundromat Project’s annual “People-Powered Pay-it-Forward.” The campaign distributed $50,000 in funds to support the work of other organizations led by people of color to support arts and other creative initiatives that enact social change. Kendra Ross is a Brooklyn Arts Fund, Local Arts Support, and Charlene & Ella grantee.

Our Arts in Education performances captivate and inspire audiences of all ages, interests, and abilities with opportunities to experience cultures and traditions from across the globe. BAC's Global Rhythms program fosters creativity and stimulates imagination in schools by bringing live music and dance. Curated by Brooklyn Arts Council, artist Dan Funderburgh’s larger than life patterned rainbow stretches across the entirety of the lobby at 2 MetroTech Center inviting viewers into a bright, cheerful, yet slightly wobbly world. This vinyl artwork explores the rainbow as a symbol of peace, hope, diversity, and connection. Funderburgh’s playful arch aims to connect viewers, drawing them into the lobby space to collectively celebrate the beautiful diversity all around us and being together as a community once again.

“Murals for the Movement,” the newest project of the Downtown Brooklyn + Dumbo Art Fund, is now on view. The three murals are vibrant, powerful and stunning. Many thanks to the wonderful artists, Sophia Dawson, Cey Adams, and Marka27 produced by Street Theory, Kate at Two Trees for studio space, and our wonderful patterns at NYCDOT Art - Marissa + Nina - for making this all possible. As the daylight hours are dwindling, we are going to host a walking tour November 4, in conjunction with the Dumbo First Thursday Gallery Walk.

In partnership with HERE, Bushwick Starr presents the world premiere of “Preparedness,” written by Hillary Miller and directed by Kristjan Thor. This new comic thriller follows the faculty of a moribund arts department forced to undergo self-defense training. As the afternoon unravels into chaos, these educators discover the costs of a divided community. Award-winning theater scholar Miller teams up with director Thor, who brings his immersive horror expertise to Preparedness, examining the effects of fear on our professional lives.

With the theme of heal and restore, “Your flowers are so lovely they have made me well again” unites 19 artists who teach in ART YARD BKLYN’s programs for kids, teens, and adults. Each artist identifies a plant with healing properties and brings it to the fore in an inspired painting. Together the installation communicates resiliency and interdependence, qualities that are essential for a healthy community. The installation brightens up the busy downtown Brooklyn sidewalks and reminds us that we are part of nature.
This project is part of STAR – Storefront Arts Recovery Initiative that connects artists with property owners to enliven New York City sidewalks with art.

To Protect, Serve and Understand (TPSU) is a 10-week theatre workshop and performance presented by the Irondale Ensemble Project in Fort Greene. Our artist facilitators invite you to join a transformational and fun program for bridging differences, confronting complex issues and rediscovering our shared humanity. TPSU brings together community members and police officers for improvisational training — learning and applying the tools of the actor in order to be heard, bear active witness to others’ perspectives and spotlight needed change.

The Arts Center at Governors Island is home to year-round artist residency programs for artists working in any discipline. Artists are invited to explore the principal themes of equity and sustainability throughout their residency with Governors Island serving as a site for research and experimentation.
Concurrent to Governors Island’s ambitious plans for addressing climate change and environmental issues in the long-term, the Arts Center Residency encourages creative practices that engage with social and climate justice, NYC harbor history, urban ecology, and water.

Engaging Artists (EA) is More Art’s residency program for artists seeking to both develop and sustain their public art and socially-engaged practice. The program curriculum encompasses a professional development series, public art commission opportunities, mentorship, and peer networking.
This nine-month Residency provides an infrastructure and laboratory for NYC-based early career and underrepresented artists to gain a deeper understanding of the history of the field of public art. The Residency is focused on the incubation and commissioning of a public art project.

Building on the 20+ year history of the Nancy Quinn Fund and its general operating grants for the smallest New York City-based theatres, A.R.T./New York is excited to announce the Strengthening NYC Theatres Grant program. The Strategic Opportunities Support Fund (SOS Fund) is a rapid response funding mechanism that issues micro-grants to organizations addressing crises with strategic organizing and advocacy to meet emergency needs in their communities. Impact 100 NYC, an all-women philanthropic giving circle dedicated to transforming New York City communities through lasting impact, has announced the opening of its 2022 grant application cycle for eligible nonprofits. The all-volunteer organization annually bestows an Innovation Grant of $100,000 to at least one nonprofit operating within the five boroughs of NYC for the benefit of city residents and communities.

Catapult gives early support to propel projects forward that hold the promise of a story that should be uniquely told in film. The Café Royal Cultural Foundation is delighted to announce our expansion to New York City. Since 2007 the foundation, based in Hamburg, Germany, has supported and fostered talented artists of all kinds, enabling them to enhance their craft and realize their artistic vision. Café Royal Cultural Foundation NYC is now offering grants for artists in NYC. The awards are established to support and encourage artists residing in New York City who are currently working in music, visual arts, performance and literature.

Engaging Artists Fellowship

En Foco Photography Fellowship 2022

En Foco is highly regarded for its leadership in support of photographers of color and for its advocacy role in addressing the issues related to cultural equity and access.
The 7th annual En Foco Photography Fellowship is designed to support photographers of color who demonstrate the highest quality of work as determined by a photography panel of peers and industry professionals. The Photography Fellowship Program will: Award ten fellowships at $1,000 per; include fellows in a 2022 group exhibition; feature the fellows in the 2022 Nueva Luz publication printed and online editions; and provide professional development and networking opportunities.
The National Arts Club Artist Fellowship

The NAC Artist Fellowship program continues the Club's over 120-year history of supporting the arts and artists by granting a select number of artists with one year of full membership to the historic club, with the goal of furthering their careers. Artist Fellows will be provided with complimentary Club participation, providing access to the historic clubhouse, public programs and discounted private overnight rooms. The Artist Fellowship provides opportunities for the recipient to be featured in Club programming and presentations.
NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship
$7,000

The NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship is a $7,000 unrestricted cash grant available to artists living in New York State and/or one of the Indian Nations located therein. This grant is awarded in fifteen different disciplines over a three-year period (five categories a year) and the application is free to complete. The NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship is not a project grant, but is intended to fund an artist’s vision or voice, at all levels of their artistic development.
