In BAC’s Wellness Studio Blog, we invite you to share the passion we have for healing arts, and show how you can use featured Brooklyn traditions from our global diasporas to nurture and heal your body, community, and soul.

Today’s featured artist: Lamont Jack Pearley!

A songwriter and producer, Lamont Pearley communicates his stand on equality and freedom through music.

We asked Lamont about his background, and connection to Brooklyn:

“I got into folklore by default. I'm in Brooklyn. For me and my peers and siblings, we come from hard working and blue collar and intellectual folk. Folklore wasn't presented as I know it now; we were just immersed in the culture of Brooklyn.”

And we asked Lamont the blues and music he has devoted his life to studying:

“Blues is the most basic, and the most it is the foundation of the black experience. Its life is the people, the blues people, there'll be no blues of steroids, no blues people.

And there'll be no blues people if it weren't for the experiences that predicated and constituted these expressions and all expressions are downtrodden, right?

But they are definitely responses to a many different life experiences that is specific to a group of people that doesn't mean that no one can experience or engage or enjoy take part or even become of the folk group but it is definitely it's experience specific to a particular group of people spiritually.”
