Bringing J’Ouvert to the Forefront: Steel Pan Tuning and Building Webinar

Join us for the release of Khuent Rose’s instructional steel pan tuning videos, as well as a live question and answer session with the panner.

Through Brooklyn Arts Council’s Bringing J’Ouvert to the Forefront initiative, we understand the cost, timewise and financially, of hiring a steel pan tuner.  In order to confront the lack of resources available for J’Ouvert artists, we are dedicated to increasing the number of steel pan tuners that are locally available. Brooklyn Arts Council, in partnership with J’Ouvert City International, and Achievement First Brooklyn High School invite you to participate in an online forum to watch and discuss steel pan tuning.  Artist, educator, and community leader Khuent Rose will lead the online session and explore: 

• Introduction to Steel Pan Tuning 

• Synching & Marking

• Grooving, Setting/Backing 

• Cutting and Burning 

• Tuning & Applying Protective Finish 

• Fine Tuning and Blending 

This workshop will be curated by tuner, educator, pannist, keyboardist, composer, and performing artist Khuent Rose.
